TA’s Story

TA’s Story

This experience of volunteering has helped TA become more confident in looking for paid employment.

TA came to the service looking to work in football, an area he is passionate about. Working together with his Employment Support Worker (ESW) they explored the qualifications needed but found the training for a lot of the roles had moved online. TA explained that he struggles with online learning and prefers in person practical training, he felt this method wouldn’t suit him. Together, they discussed alternative ways TA could work within football.

This involved the ESW reaching out to local football clubs to find out about potential volunteer roles. One club manager responded and offered to meet with TA. The ESW joined TA in touring the club grounds and they discussed volunteering roles such as stewarding which the club had need of throughout the week for their home games. The manager also mentioned that if TA were to complete an online coaching or referee course in the future, he would be happy to involve TA in community coaching roles.

TA volunteered until the end of the season, with the manager letting him know that he would be welcome to join again when the season started up again. This experience of volunteering has helped TA become more confident in looking for paid employment and is now more open to pursuing lines of work outside of football continuing to meet with his ESW to look at options.
